Tips to Use Instagram for Medical Practices

Almost 80 million photos are being posted on Instagram each day. These come from celebrities, influencers, and regular people as well. However, a vast majority of accounts on Instagram are there to promote businesses, too, and that is something that you can do for your medical practice.

Instagram is a very viable medium in marketing your business and getting your brand out there. The more people that see your content, the higher the chances of you getting patients from these viewers. Of course, your content must be interesting and top-notch in order to get these desired results.

There are many ways that you can go about a successful Instagram campaign, while there are also things that you should avoid to make the most out of each post that you make. Here are some helpful tips that you can use if you plan to use Instagram in promoting your business.

Before and After Pics

Creating before and after pics is one of the most effective ways to show off your work. If you are a dermatologist, for example. You can show a face with skin problems on one side of your photo and a clear one on the other. For chiropractors and the like, you can show a patient’s posture before and after treatment.

If you are just starting out with your medical practice, you can grab photos from other sources just to show the public what you can do. However, in these cases explicitly mention that these photos are not your own and give credit to your sources.

BTS (Behind the Scenes)

Many people are afraid of inquiring about or availing of health services. Instagram gives you the opportunity to lift the veil of mystery in the medical field by providing behind the scenes images of surgeries, equipment, and tools that you use.

By exposing your audience to what happens behind the curtains, you can desensitize them and provide them with a sense of security as they would better understand what you do. This will allow them to be more receptive to your services which would, in turn, encourage them to try your practice out.

Network with Others

Networking with other companies and influencers is a great way to get more views. You can use their existing subscribers to reach more people, and you can also help them out by exposing them to your audience as well.

Creating a partnership can give you free advertisements, and it can also be a good way to run promotions. You can provide discounts to those who reached out to you via a partner’s Instagram account, or you can pay your partner a commission for every completed service. This is a mutually beneficial partnership that is very effective as well.

Be Informative

Due to the visual nature of Instagram, this medium is a great way to inform your potential market about what you do and even about health-related topics in general. Make sure to provide relevant, up to date, and accurate content to increase your prestige and provide credibility to your brand.

Of course, since you would be talking to regular people and not doctors with advanced degrees in medicine, it is recommended that you simplify terms and not explain in so many words the thought that you want to put across. Try to be simple yet concise so that regular people can get to appreciate your content more.

Be Personable

Even if you are talking about a medical practice, don’t forget to have fun. Your practice is run by humans, too, so don’t be afraid to reflect that. Post photos of yourself or your workers as they go about their jobs, and you can also have images of them having fun.

You can endear yourselves to your potential patients by showing a human side and that you truly care about your work. You can show patients who can provide you with good reviews and who have good relationships with your staff. Provide a warm and fuzzy feeling for your audience to make them care for you.

Use Hashtags

Hashtags are symbols and text that you can attach to your posts to relate them to a certain topic. There are no definitive rules on how to use hashtags, so you can post as many as you want. Don’t overdo it by overshadowing your actual content though. Also, make sure that you use hashtags relevant to your post or practice.

Respond to Comments

If you already have a sizable number of followers, you are bound to have people commenting on your posts. Make it a point to look at these as some of them would surely be interested in your services and would like to contact you. Make sure to respond in a timely manner.

You can also make it a point to respond to other comments and make some light banter. Saying thank you and showing appreciation would show that you care about their opinions. Make sure also to respond to other comments or suggestions in a professional manner as every opinion counts.

Use Paid Posts

Paid posts can turn your posts into instant ads. This feature can be turned on and off and can provide your posts with direct links to your site. Use this only as needed as you don’t want to spend money wastefully on posts that will not generate potential sales.

Paid posts are relatively cheap and fairly easy to use. For a minimal cost, you can have links that invite calls to action which will allow you to take your market to the next level of engagement. This is the best way to further market your practice through Instagram.

Be Aware of Privacy Laws

When posting images about patients or specific cases, be aware of privacy and confidentiality laws in your area. Make sure to acquire specific consent when posting images related to a particular case. This will help you avoid getting slapped by fines or penalties due to violating HIPAA policies and other regulations.

By following the tips mentioned above, you can turn Instagram into a powerful tool that can help you promote your practice and get more patients signing up for your services.
